Reflecting on Allah’s Names this Ramadan
Qul inna Salati, Wanusuki, Wamahyaya, Wamamati, Lillahi Rabbil Alamin..
This very same ayah in Surat Al An’am [Ayat 162], is the very same du’a we recite in the Iftitah. We admit, at least 5 times a day in our daily lives that our Salah, our rites of Sacrifice (for the Deen), our living.. and our dying is only for Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, the Lord of the worlds. We admit that the whole of our life is only for Allah Azzawajal, The Mighty and Majestic.
Yet, at the same time we still cling on to Earth. We work extra hard for the year-end bonus our big bosses promised us. We procrastinate Salah. We miss our Salah. We tweeted “Syukur Alhamdulillah, Rahmat Tuhan.” each time Allah Al Khaliq, The Creator, sent us rain. Yet we don’t realise that the thundersound is a sign that even the thunder do Tasbih.
The nature around us is so obedient to Allah Ar Rahman, The All Merciful, that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) knows when the sun is rising and when it is setting. Did we not see the obedience of the sun to Allah Al Musawwir, the One who Invents? Yet, we surpass all of it and disobey Allah Al Azim, The Most High – almost every single day. Yet, we want Jannah.
Why do we not weep then, when Allah Al Ghafur, The All Forgiving, sent us one of the greatest gift? A gift more precious than a million dollars and a million years, a gift more valuable than Donna Karan New York, a gift more darling than anything in the world – Ramadhan. Ahlan wa Sahlan.
Even before Ramadhan, Allah Al ‘Afuw, The Pardoner, had already granted us a great gift, a gift of no monetary value, a gift more adored to all wrongdoers. None other but, Tawbah. So if we, the Ummah of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam, combine Ramadhan and Tawbah together, we will realise that Allah An Nafi’, The Creator of Good, gave us not just a valued present, but a bonus. Not the bonus we had always expected from our big boss, but the greater bonus we did not expect from our King.
This is our Rabb, He who keeps giving and giving, bonus after bonus, while His servants keeps forgetting and disobeying… and always forgetting and always disobeying.
We get mad when friends destroy our most valuable items, but this is our Rabb we are talking about – Allah As Sabur, The Patient One, who keeps forgiving his servants… even when they have destroyed themselves.
Subhanallah, Allah is Great.[divider]
