Make A Connection With Your Prophet (S): Read his Seerah
“Ask yourselves a few basic questions before claiming that you love your Prophet Muhammad (S)
– Are you obeying what he commanded and abstaining from things he forbade?
– Are you in any way in your life practicing your Prophet’s action and sayings?
– Under what circumstances are you willing to sacrifice your life or your wealth for your Prophet (S)?”
How many times have you heard such questions in your emails, SMS’s, tweets or shared Facebook statuses?
Though we might give a very ignorant attention to such questions and skip to the next message or email but one thing is for sure: We will never be able to give a fulfilling answer. The reason is that everyone has a different level of dedication towards their Prophet. We may believe that we love our Prophet deeply but a dedication can only be acquired when you know a person quite well.
Who Actually Loved The Prophet (S)
The Sahaabis of the Prophet Muhammad (S) were ones who we can actually believe to have truly loved the Prophet Muhammad (S) because they were his closest companions and they followed him in every way. We may not possess such high morals, courage or even the passion like our Sahaabis possessed but there are surely ways in which we can associate ourselves to our Prophet Muhammad (S) so that we understand how he led his life and what actions he preferred for Muslims to follow. One greatest way is learning the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (S).
Consider Yourselves Lucky
We as Muslims, no doubt, have a very strong belief in the last messenger of Allah SWT and can surely consider ourselves as the lucky nation on which the last Prophet was sent. We have an excellent example of Allah’s Apostle to lead our lives the way our Creator liked for us. Yet how many of us actually know how our Prophet (S) led his life, what were his traits and characteristics, what incidents occurred during his lifetime and how he dealt with them?
Why Learning the Seerah is Important
There are a number of times I have come across situations regarding my religion in which I was left dumbfounded and did not know what has to be said. I come across people with different beliefs all the time. The very concept of modernization can also be very distracting for us Muslims forcing us to deviate from the right way of living life. I gathered that for us Muslims the best way to not go astray is to be in touch with the life of the one person who has led an exemplary life himself.
It is a great blessing of Allah SWT that every incident of the life of Prophet Muhammad (S) has been recorded by his Sahaabas and then has been carried forward to this day so that every Muslim can have access to it. The Seerah of our Prophet Muhammad (S) can be taken as a methodology of dealing with different aspects of life. It is something that can not only help us in building a connection with our beloved Prophet, but it is also the best way to learn about the application of the teachings of Islam that many of us may not yet be familiar with.
Portray Islam Like You Know Your Prophet S
Muslims are the living example of Islam and how we portray ourselves also depict our identity based on our religion. Someone who can go about denying any aspect of the Prophet (S) or Islam it is because they do not know Prophet (S).When we read the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (S), we not only get to know about him but also about the teachings of our religion.
In addition to knowing the life and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (S), the Seerah helps significantly in giving Daawah. There are so many incidents described in the Seerah that we can relate to when we are inviting others to see the beauty of Islam. Moreover there are several incidents described in the Quran that point to the life of the Prophet (S) and we can understand them better if we know the context of these verses. The application of Quran and Sunnah can be easily seen in the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad (S).
Add To Your Faith
My faith gets affected every time I read a certain aspect of the Prophet (S)’s life. We as Muslims should understand the kind of love and dedication we need to posses for our beloved Prophet (S). There are loads and loads to be learnt about our religion including things we never considered important. Our Prophet (S)’s life is an excellent way of learning all we can.
So whether it is a blasphemous movie or an irrational way of using freedom of expression to mimic our Prophet (S) we will only be able to defend the honor of Allah’s Apostle if we know him well. And the best way to accomplish it is to study the Seerah yourself. Consider it an obligatory duty and a helpful tool that will not only bond you with Prophet (S) and Islam but will also be a guide in helping you become a better person.
