Food Review: Manhattan Fish Market
If you are looking for an American style seafood menu, look no more as you might just have an outlet of this well known restaurant in your neighborhood shopping mall. I had lunch at the Manhattan Fish Market in Causeway Point last Friday and as I was so eager, or should I say famished, I was actually the first customer when they opened!
I must add that the staff was very friendly and caring as I had my toddler with me and they quickly arranged high chair for my child and even made way for me to park my stroller by the counter and of course, I was very appreciative of their service! What a good way to start my lunch you bet.
Again, I was spoilt for choice when I looked at the menu as they had a variety of food – from chicken to fish to all kinds of seafood and even pasta. Their food is also served in a variety of way – grilled, poached, flamed, fried or baked!
I finally settled for the Scallops Fish Chicken (SFC) set meal consisting of the dish, a glass of pepsi and a bowl of cream of mushroom soup. Oh, before I forget, there was also garlic herb rice to go along with it. As the normal custom, the cream of mushroom soup arrived first, while waiting for the main dish.
The food came about 15 minutes later and by then, I was famished! However, despite being famished, I told myself I had to do a fair job of reviewing the dish. As you know, when you are famished, everything might taste perfect!
Now on to the food. The garlic herb rice had a very rich taste to it even though the rice was a little hard. The fish finger was really nice though as it was very tender and crispy. I would say that the grilled chicken was a bit over grilled; however, the red chili that was served with the dish was fiery. I must add, for those who cannot take spicy, do not attempt to try it as it might just set your ears on fire! It is just like your sambal belacan but not as thick. Well, I love it!
The ambience in the restaurant was just right. It has an open concept area and you can choose to sit in the main dining area or at their other side. Either way, both areas are very comfortable and suitable for family dining. As the restaurant might be crowded during weekends and they don’t really have much seating space, I would advise you do an advance reservation before you come to avoid disappointment as the queue can get pretty long during weekends.
Note: I was there during a weekday but I had seen the queue during the weekend while I was around the area.
For non-seafood lovers, don’t fret! You can try out their fish and chicken menu which are of great variety. They have platter meals suitable when you dine as a group or with a friend, made up of a balanced variety. As I was so full after eating my meal, I did not have space for dessert but their dessert menu looks equally yummylicious ranging from mud pie to ice cream and even tiramisu. Maybe next time, I might just drop by for dessert! :D
Overall review: 3.5/5
Type of Food: Western
Plus Point: Good service, portions were huge, seafood was fresh
Minus Point: Over grilled chicken and scallop (might be a one-off thing though!)
