Eid Ailments & The Prophetic Cures
After a month of fasting, our stomachs have now been jolted in shock with all the ketupat, rendang, kuih tats and spicy, oily food that have now invaded our tummies. Below is a list of common Hari Raya sicknesses and its corresponding Prophetic cures.
[divider]1. Indigestion/Upset Stomach
Vinegar helps to ease indigestion by stimulating the stomach & intestines. All you need to do is mix one tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of warm water. Sip slowly and it will inshaAllah help with indigestion and bloating.
Do note though that the best vinegars to use as medicine are the lighter types: lighter in colour and taste, preferably Japanese rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
Drinking buttermilk mixed with half a teaspoon of fenugreek seed powder is a valuable natural cure for stomach ache.
2. Flu/Phlegm
The most common symptoms of the disease are chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness/fatigue and general discomfort.
Fenugreek can help to clear congested phlegm and soothe a sore throat. A teaspoon of fenugreek seeds can be soaked in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes and then drink the mixture.
3. Sore Throat
This is possible the most common Eid ailment especially with all the soft drinks that become customary beverages to serve your guests. If you are having a sore throat, there are several different cures for it.
Firstly, mix water and apple cider vinegar and gargle the mixture.
Alternatively, you can gargle with fenugreek infusion, five to six times in a day.
4. Headache
The treatment for headaches and migraines depends upon their particular type and cause. Sometimes they can be treated with the induction of vomiting, by cupping, with compression head bandage or sometimes just with rest, quietness and calm.
You can also try rubbing the forehead and the sides of the face near the ears with Virgin Black Seed (Habbatus Sauda) oil then bandaging the forehead.
5. Exhaustion
Do not rush through Eid visiting or try to squeeze too many houses in a day. Use prayer times to spend longer at a relative’s house and use prayer to cool your body down and get some spiritual and physical rest.
