Difficulty & Reward in the Last Days – Shaykh Hisham Kabbani
Anas RA related that the Prophet (S) said:
[box_light]There will come a time for people that to hold onto one’s religion would be like holding a hot coal in one’s hand. (Ahmad, Musnad. Tirmidhi.)[/box_light]In another hadith describing the difficulties of the Last Days, Abu Hurayra RA related that the Prophet (S) said:
[box_light]Woe to the Arabs for a great evil which is nearly upon them: it will be like patches of dark night. A man will wake up as a believer, and be an unbeliever by nightfall. People will sell their religion for a small amount of worldly goods. The one who clings to his religion on that day will be as one who is grasping an ember or thorns. (Ahmad, Musnad)[/box_light]Ibn Abbas RA related:

Once the Prophet (S) asked for water and the Companions said that there was none. The Prophet (S) then asked for a pot, and it was brought to him. He put his hand in it and spread his fingers. Water filled the pot, gushing from between his fingers, as when Musa AS struck the rock with his staff. The Prophet (S) told Bilal RA to call the people; and everyone came to take ablution from this water which emanated from the fingers of the Prophet (S). Ibn Mas’ud Ra was eager not only to make wudu but also to drink from that water. The Companions performed ablution with that water, and everyone prayed.
After the prayer the Prophet (S) stood and said, “O my Companions! Who is the best in faith?” They said, “The angels.” And he said, “And how would they not have perfect faith when they see paradise?” [i.e. it is simple for them to believe]. The Companions then said, “The prophets.” And he said, “How is it that they would not believe when the revelation is coming to them from the heavens?” [i.e. they see Angel Jibril AS coming to them].
They then said, “Your companions.” And he said, “How would they not believe when they see what they see?” [i.e. they see the Holy Prophet (S) in person and see much miracles as the water pouring from his hand]. They did not speak. He then said, “The best in faith are a people who believe in me though they never saw me. They are mine, my brothers” (Tabarani)

In another hadith on this same incident related from Anas RA, the Prophet (S) added:
[box_light]They are going to see a revealed book and believe in it without seeing me during its [period of] revelation. They find it in pages, and these are the people with the best of faith.[/box_light][divider]
