Poem for Ummi
At fifty… she’s a fighter!
Calmly killing off calamity –
she oozes serenity, her sunshile smile that greets me
like a ray of light.
She ignites!
With words of wisdom,
she recites
even if my ears are unwilling, she’s still giving
because she’s a giver like that –
never lacking love, always full of life,
breathing beauty into every single sacrifice
she has made and is always making.
It’s tough undertaking this thankless job.
I’m just saying –
She means everything to me!
She gave everything to me!
And she deserves everything from me!
And I’m sorry if I’ve been rude,
me and my hasty attitude.
Realise! She’s mercy from the Divine!
Be the radiant, good daughter, I’m now inclined
because if the road to heaven
lies under my mother’s feet,
how dare I even treat a gift from God
without any goodness?
She’s a gem of graciousness, and girl,
she brought you into this world!
Gonna show to the One above
thankfulness for bringing me the one who taught me love –
sayang, cinta, in arabic, they say mawaddah.
And I better be better
to the best:
my Ummi.
